Windows: Properly morticed and tenoned which is one of the strongest joints in woodwork. They are profiled, and weather resistant. The glazing is acrylic styrene. All glazing is retained by profiled beading which is pre-mitred (no awkward cutting required).
Timber: You will be impressed by Shire’s use of natural products and their environmental credentials. A high quality timber summerhouse starts with high quality timber, so it is important to know exactly what timber is being used for your building. Shire’s summerhouses are constructed using high quality spruce and is sourced from Siberia and Scandinavia under strict FSC guidance. Spruce is more durable than pine and provides a higher quality finish. This timber is slow grown unlike fast grown British timber, being slow grown timber means a tighter grain, less sap and with far less knots and warping occurring. The timber used on Shire’s garden buildings is therefore a more durable timber that will last much longer than other timbers used on summerhouses. Spruce is therefore the timber of choice for companies such as Shire who always look to produce the best garden buildings.
Treatment: All Shire garden buildings are supplied pre-treated with a base coat to both sides in a golden brown water based industrial product (colour can vary from the picture shown). Shire the manufacturer recommends that you apply a water based top coat of your choice. This will protect the timber from weathering on your summerhouse making it last longer and will need to be repeated accordingly in relation to the manufacturer’s instructions.
